When am I required to register?
You are required to register when you give child care to more
than three day care children who are from more than one family,
and you do this for more than 70 days in a calendar year or you
receive payment from an agency that requires you to be registered
or you want to participate in the USDA Child Care Food Program.
If you have questions about the state law
or your provider registration renewal, please call the Child
Care Division at 1-800-556-6616
Why is this training mandatory?
The 1995 Oregon Legislature passed a law requiring child care
providers to attend 2 hours of training specific to recognizing
and reporting child abuse and neglect every 2 years. This law
was amended by the 1999 Oregon Legislature to require all new
applicants to attend the 2 hours of training before completing
the application process for becoming a registered provider. Providers
already registered with the Child Care Division are also required
to take the training upon renewal until October of 2001.
Why do I have to register by mail?
In order to accommodate everyone with printed materials and seating,
we need to know how many plan to attend each session. By keeping
the size of each session to about 25, the trainer can answer
questions and interact with the entire group.
I live in Yamhill County, why do I have
to go to a a training session in Salem?
If you missed the training offered in your county and want to
participate before the next scheduled training, you may need
to travel to a different county. Please call your local Child
Care Resource and Referral agency to ensure there no other training
session or options in you area.
I live in Lake County, why are there no
training sessions scheduled here?
If the center does not have a training session scheduled in your
area, please contact your local Child Care Resource and Referral
agency for other training options.
Can my friend/husband/sister/daughter go
with me?
Not unless this person is a registered family child care provider
or works for a registered family child care provider on a regular
basis. In order to allow the trainer to speak freely about a
difficult and sensitive subject, we ask that you not bring children
to the training session.
