Options for Tier II Providers

What does being a "Tier II" day care home mean?

Except for meals served to children identified as income eligible, all meals served in Tier II day care homes are reimbursed at a lower rate than those meals served in Tier I day care homes.

Do I have any options as a tier II provider?

YES,
you essentially have two choices.

  • Choose to accept the tier II reimbursement

OR

  • Have Northwest Nutrition Service attempt to income qualify your day care children by choosing the option II choice on the Option II letter.

    • If a child is from a household that is determined income eligible, the household's income is at or below 185 percent of Federal income poverty guidelines.

      OR
    • The child or parents participate in a federally or state funded program whose income guidelines do not exceed the 185 percent income poverty guidelines.

Can I choose which parents to have Northwest Nutrition Service attempt to qualify?

NO
. If a provider Chooses option II as a Tier II provider, all parents will have equal opportunity to qualify at the higher rate.

In addition, providers can not be told the names of children who are income eligible as it is the responsibility of the Sponsoring Agency to maintain the confidentiality of the information collected.
