Starting Your Day Care Business

Starting Out:

What is a Day Care Home?
A home providing care for children whose parents work, attend school, respite care, or who seek an enriching group experience for their child.

As a day care provider, you are responsible in ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment which supports children's development to their fullest potential.

You may work with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, or school children up to 12 years of age.

Quality child care is provided by skilled professionals who are sensitive to and knowledgeable about children's needs.

Are you considering opening an in-home family day care?

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Why do I want to open a daycare in my home?
  • Is there a need in my neighborhood?
  • What experience do I have with children?
  • How much business knowledge do I need?
  • Do I have enough space in my home and yard?
  • How will this affect other people living in my home?
  • Can I make enough money to support my needs?
  • Am I willing to work long hours without breaks?
