What is the CACFP?

The Child and Adult Care food Program (CACFP) is a federally funded program of the Food and Nutrition Service(FNS), United States Department of Agriculture(USDA).

CACFP provides reimbursement for meals served in a child care setting and is made available in Oregon through the Department of Educaion(ODE). ODE contracts with Northwest Nutrition Service, Inc. to sponsor participation in this program for family child care ,certiied homes and exempt providers who care for children through DHS.

Who can participate?

Participation in the program is provided through non-profit sponsor organizations in each state such as Northwest Nutrition Service. All registered daycare providers and/or Department of Human Services providers (DHS) homes meeting nutritional and record keeping requirements are eligible for monthly cash reimbursements.

Do I have to be registered?

In Oregon, you are required by law to be registered if you provide child care to more than three day care children who are from more than one family, and you do this for more than 70 days in a calendar year; or you receive payment from an agency that requires you to be registered; or you want to participate in the USDA Child Care Food Program.

Step 2:

You must attend a Registration Overview Meeting for new child care providers. At this meeting you will learn and receive a copy of the rules and regulations of operating a day care from your home and will also receive an application to complete and mail to the Office of Childcare. These meetings are held in most counties and require reservations. For meeting schedules, locations and reservations, call 503-548-4400
